BANK SMART THIS HOLIDAY: STAY SAFE WITH ONLINE TRANSACTIONS

‘Tis the season to spend wisely and securely — don’t let scammers steal your holiday cheer or your hard-earned money.

The holidays bring joy, generosity, and unfortunately, a rise in online scams. With more people shopping, sending money, and checking their accounts digitally, fraudsters take advantage of the festive rush. These scams often mimic real messages from banks, retailers, or delivery services to trick you into sharing sensitive information.

At CIMB Bank PH, your online security is our top priority. As you celebrate this season of giving, we want to help you bank smart by knowing what to look out for and how to stay protected.

What are holiday scams?

Scammers use social engineering to deceive people into revealing personal information — and the busy Christmas season gives them plenty of opportunities. These scams often appear as enticing promos, urgent alerts, or fake bank messages. Common examples include:

  • Fake Bank Emails or Promos: You might receive messages that look like they’re from CIMB or popular retailers, warning of “account issues” or offering unbelievable deals. Don’t click right away — verify first.

  • Suspicious Holiday Texts: Texts about undelivered packages, raffle winnings, or urgent banking issues are designed to make you panic and react quickly.

  • Impersonation Calls: Fraudsters may pose as CIMB staff or customer service and ask you to verify your account or share an OTP. Hang up immediately — CIMB will never do this.

  • Too-Good-to-Be-True Social Posts: Beware of posts offering free gifts, giveaways, or exclusive holiday sales. These can lead to fake websites that steal your data.

Quick tips to secure your online banking this holiday season

  • Pause before clicking suspicious bank alerts: Scammers send fake promos or login warnings pretending to be from CIMB. Always double-check the sender’s details before acting.

  • Avoid banking through unknown links: Never access your CIMB account through links in emails, texts, or social media. Use only the CIMB Bank PH app or our official website.

  • Never share banking details or OTPs: CIMB will never ask for your login credentials, one-time passwords (OTPs), or personal information via call or message.

  • Transact only on official CIMB platforms: Whether checking your balance, sending money, or paying bills, always use the CIMB Bank PH app or www.cimbbank.com.ph

Staying alert keeps your celebrations — and your finances — secure. Stay smart, stay safe, and enjoy a worry-free holiday season.
