What is Phishing?

Phishing is a form of cybercrime where fraudsters impersonate trusted institutions to steal sensitive data like passwords, OTPs, or bank details. It comes in many forms, including:

  • Email Phishing: Fake emails that appear to come from banks or companies
  • SMS Phishing (Smishing): Texts with links urging you to take immediate action
  • Voice Phishing (Vishing): Calls pretending to be bank representatives
  • Social Media Phishing: DMs or posts that lead you to fake websites

Quick tips to scam-proof your online experience

  • Double-check the sender: Always look closely at the email address or phone number. If it looks off or unfamiliar, don’t engage.
  • Don’t click suspicious links or attachments: Legitimate institutions won’t ask you to verify your account through unofficial links or downloads.
